Another Saturday Finished Object:

I have had this little sock blocker key chain for over a year and it had remained sockless until today. I had to go to the laundromat because my washing machine is in pieces in my basement and the parts store isn’t open until monday, so I made this little sock while I did laundry. (It’s made with leftover Trekking XL)

An old man there asked me if I would make him a sweater and I said “uh, that’s a big job” and he said “well how about gloves” and I just laughed. Then later he told me I better be careful with those needles because I might get “hurt real bad” if I fell with them. Best Advice I’ve had all day.

I have a finished object today. The knitting has been done for a couple weeks, but I am a procrastinator and didn’t sew the casing for the ribbon until this morning.

This is an EXPANDABLE STRING BAG:

One is showing how it expands (It is holding 28 full skeins of Sugar n’ Cream cotton yarn). The other is before it is expanded.

I bought this as a kit from THE SPINNERY at MSWF. It is made with 4 oz. of mercerized cotton. (Brand unknown). I used about 1/2 of the skein. If I would make another I would knit more rows and make the bag deeper (it recommends knitting to 15″) and I would make the straps different. (The kit contains ribbon and has them like a back pack.)

Anyway.. in all things ECO… the girl at Giant Eagle told me they are going “plastic bag-less” in February. Time to get your bags ready!

I am cranky today.

It’s raining YET again. Boy it is pouring.

My neighbor is planning this big FIREWORKS show tonite, even though the FOURTH isn’t until tomorrow.

That means the dogs will be miserable and scared.

Funny how the holiday has evolved from “INDEPENDENCE DAY” where we celebrate the founding of our country to “THE FOURTH”.

Today is my THIRTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY! YES THIRTY! 3-0!

In honor of this auspicious occasion and the fact that I am an old wife, I am posting today an A-Z list of Old wive’s tales –artfully cut and pasted from this WEBSITE.

(I actually would probably be able to write a list myself but that would take too much typing)

Acorns:	If you carry an acorn, you will have continued good luck and a long life.
Bell:	It’s been said that the bells provide protection from demons as they are scared of the loud noise.
Calves:	If the first baby calf born in the winter is white, it’s a sign that the winter will be very harsh.
Door:	It’s believed that leaving a house through any door other than the one that is used to enter the house is bad luck.
Ears:	If your right ear itches, someone is saying something nice about you. If it’s the left, someone’s saying something bad about you.
Fingernails:	Cutting your nails on Friday or Sunday is bad luck. Fingernail clippings should be saved, burned, or buried to prevent bad luck.
Good Friday:	The Friday before Easter is Good Friday. If someone dies on Good Friday, they will go directly to Heaven.
Horseshoes:	Hanging a horseshoe above the door to any home will bring good luck to all who live there.

Wood:	If speaking of good luck, knock on wood three times so evil spirits won’t take it away.
X:	The lines on the palm of your right hand that show an “X” represent the number of children you will have.
Yawn:	Covering your mouth when you yawn will prevent your soul from leaving your body when you yawn.

THREE YEARS AGO TODAY

Three years ago today, at 6:30 AM, I received the telephone call that ruined my life. The nursing home where my mother was for skilled nursing care called to tell me my mother was dead.

I thought I was ready. She had been sick for a good while. She was dying in exactly the manner she didn’t want to die. And she told me she was ready to go, but didn’t think I was ready for it.
I thought I was.

I wasn’t.

I had been strong throughout it all. The illness, the dr trips, the surgeries, the hospital trips. Then she died and I fell apart.

Here it is three years later. Life goes on without us. I am not together yet. Today is the date three years ago that ruined my life.

If you have your mother hug her today, you might not have her tomorrow.

I just read about this study in a post on Ravelry:

A study conducted by UCLA’s Department of Psychiatry has revealed that the kind of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending on where she is in her cycles.

For example:

If she is ovulating, she is attracted to men with:

rugged and masculine features

However, if she is menstruating, or menopausal, she tends to be more attracted to a man with:

duct tape over his mouth and a spear lodged in his chest while he is on fire!

No further studies are expected.

Does this always tangle like this???? It was so knotted out of the skein that I had to use it on the ball winder and now it’s still all knotted up! It is driving me NUTS!!! I am working on a pair of toe-up socks using OPAL RAINFOREST TIGER and it’s so tangly. I am telling you, I don’t think I will ever buy OPAL again because of it. And it’s unfortunate as the RAINFOREST colors are so nice.

Grr!

Well I am all about TEH CUTE . KAWAII. Whatever you want to call it. CUTE STUFF!!

Well Bigfoot (he is wearing a men’s size 10 now) and I were in Le Tarzhet the other day and I was looking for a watering can because mine had a hole in it. Everytime I held it above my head to water the hanging flowers it was sprinkling me on the head. So here we are wandering through Target and I see this:

RESISTANCE.WAS.FUTILE.

I also showed it to EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT WALKED PAST ME IN THE STORE declaring “ZOMG!!! ISN’T THIS ADORABLE!”

It makes me happy to water the flowers. It makes me happy to have it sit on my porch.
